Bhutan measures its progress by having a ‘Gross National Happiness’, not GDP… which, very simplistically, highlights traditional and spiritual values , blending them with the need to develop but not at all costs! We found travellers to Bhutan take home beautiful memories of intangible things – the noise of Prayer flags flutter in the breeze, the echo of monks chanting and the clatter of prayer wheels. More tangible are the images taken of the mighty Fortress Monasteries…. the Trashichhodzong, and Drukgyel Dzong, the glory of Chendbji Chorten with its Eyes facing the four cardinal directions and, of course Tigers Nest.
Don’t leave without learning to shoot at an archery session – it’s the national sport of ‘The Land of the Thunder Dragon’ and taken very seriously!
